I have these rubber hiking stick pole tips.

Am I supposed to remove them in winter? I feel like it’s better if I remove them so I can slice into Icey parts a bit more? Or am I wrong?

Do I even need these?

Also are the wider winter hiking pole baskets needed? Do they actually work?

The rubber tips are for pavement. The baskets are for snow. They work bretty gud. Without them your pole pokes down pretty far.

Yes
The rubber is just to protect the tips when you don't need the bits for grip, like on concrete.

Baskets are necessary. Never remove them. Risk of injury or bending the pole on soft ground. There are smaller baskets for when you don't face miles of snow.

I just wanted a direct answer to my question I guess, to avoid any confusion.

I don’t hike where there is concrete but sometimes rocks. So it would make sense to use them in the summer. They’re just hard to remove.

To be honest I put some on and haven't removed them. They grip alright on most surfaces save for ice and it's was less annoying than the click/clack on the rocks from the carbide.
