>A person becomes infected by drinking water containing water fleas infected with guinea worm larvae. The worm larvae penetrate the digestive tract and escape into the body where the females and males mate. Around a year later, the adult female migrates through the body to an exit site – usually a lower limb – and induces an intensely painful blister on the skin. The blister eventually bursts to form an intensely painful open wound, out of which the long (up to 1 m) white string-like worm slowly crawls over the next 3-10 weeks. There is no medication available to expel the Guinea worm. Instead, the mainstay of treatment is the careful wrapping of the emerging worm around a small stick or gauze to encourage its exit. Each day, a few more centimeters of the worm emerge, and the stick is turned to maintain gentle tension. Too much tension can break and kill the worm in the wound.

Apart from hundreds of ticks on my legs after going through Welsh brush, the worst thing was probably a turk trying to insert his phallus into my backside. Thankfully they are easy to remove with a knife.

Nastoest looking? Fly larvae in squirrels. Never seen them as bad as picrel but they are fucking gross. Nastiest in general, ticks. I know 2 people in my immediate circle who can only eat meat that swims or flys because of those little bastards.

If you haven't heard of it, might be referring to alpha-gal syndrome, can be transmitted by ticks and cause what's effectively an acquired immune response to mammal products. Like a meat or even hide and milk allergy
