The first was two older ladies who I caught up to past sundown. We had all misjudged how long it would take to get back to the trailhead, and they were using their cellphone lights to see. I had a headlamp and it made it much easier.
The other were some college bros. I had briefly fallen asleep in my hammock, and on the way back I ran into them well past sundown. They didn’t have a trail map, water, food, appropriate clothing, bug spray (the mosquitoes came out and were heavy as shit)… just weed. They were kind of dicks about it, but I guess they were grumpy because it was like 9pm and a good 4 miles to the trail head. They asked for directions, I told them the way and that I was heading there, so they try to argue? They’re already lost and want to keep following their own shitty instinct. Where’s the logic in that? I didn’t even get a thank you.
