I have a Coleman 200 Lumen headlamp that is powered by 3x AAA.
I don’t use the headlamp incredibly often when having a lantern. Usually for short durations throughout the night. This one is plenty bright but when on it’s highest output setting, it has a low output and a red setting which is great for not blinding your hammered and stoned friends in the tent before you rack out
I also have a Coleman Single Mantle 625 Lumen Naphtha Burning lantern. I believe the 255 series. Amazing piece of kit. Yeah sure it’s clunky, large, not exactly lightweight and you gotta lug around the fuel but if you do it all right you end up with a Lantern that will burn steadily for ~6 hours continuously, omitting that nice warm glow which pairs with surrounding forestry in such a smooth fashion, I prefer that light over any bright headlamp. Not to mention the heating ability of that lantern, especially when paired with a two burner stove.
When I was in the Army we would heat up our arctic tent systems throughout the night by burning a Coleman Lantern and a Coleman two burner naphtha stove along side each other . One soldier would be woken every hour to assume fire watch, keep the stove/lantern pressurized if need be and or refuel. Also make sure the tent didn’t catch fire (I witnessed that twice)
Whatever guy got lucky and was assigned the last watch slot had to be the coffee and water bitch.
I keep a Pelican 1920 on my person or in a “Boat Bag” nearby. Great and quick little tool.
