>>2562708NTA, but there’s a short (12mi) local trail in a national forest that’s been closed for years. I want to say it shut down 6 years ago, but I’m really not sure of the date.
I had planned a hike out there, and was greeted by a permanent metal sign on a metal post in the center of the trail stating that it was closed. On a subsequent trip years later, the sign was still there. I went around, wondering when I might have trouble crossing a creek because of a downed bridge or have to go back because of dangerous blow downs next to sheer cliffs or something.
But there was nothing like that. There were a few blowdowns, sure. But the trail was easily passable if you’re hiking. There’s literally no reason for it to be closed, especially considering it’s a national forest. I emailed a NF employee and they just said it was damaged by a storm (possibly a hurricane years ago).
So that kind of sign should absolutely be ignored, if it’s not a generally dangerous area (this is Mississippi, so it’s not a mountain or anything) and you’re not a complete dickhead.
