Best way to do it. Working /out/ just isn't worth it, you're still working in the end. Better split the two, so you can really get into your work for 6 months, and really enjoy being /out/ the rest of the time.

You can pretty much get a hunting license with a few hours worth of effort in addition to the practical tests here. Most people take an express course that's only 3 days long. License allows owning rifles (not handguns) but never expires

In Norway you can get a degree called Wilderness Management for instance, that leads to an /out/ job. The government has people out and about, taking care of things concerning the wilderness. Look for such a degree where you live. You could also work as a tourist guide.
