>>2572866If you end up in southern Colorado, do yourself a favor and take highway 12 south over the Spanish Peaks. La Veta and some of the surrounding area sits in a little bowl of drainage and between that and the altitude it feels like Montana or Idaho. Should have been a goddamn national park but it was tied up in Mexican land grants from the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo so that's a non-starter.
>>2574161>>2574162Nah, southern Colorado is butt fucking ugly outside of the mountains. Everything south and east of about Castle Rock is shitty fucking desert and scrub all the way to Kansas. About the only good thing I can say about southeastern Colorado is that it doesn't touch T*xas - not that that stops half of the panhandle from descending on the Sangres and San Juans every year as they race to escape the mistake they made by living in not only Texas but the worst part thereof.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QxP442T-aZ0>t. lived here my whole life>>2576709It's not quite /out/ but Mystic Seaport is absolutely worth the day trip if you like old ships at all. Take a 6:30 train to get there when it opens at 10 and catch the morning light on the shore, skip lunch leave when it closes at 5 and then go to Abbot's Lobster in the Rough over in Noank and get a 1 3/4lb. lobster (1 1/2 is okay as well but quality starts to decline a bit when you hit 2) and a baguette and some iced tea for dinner afterwards before taking the train back. You'll be sunburned, slightly dehydrated and stuffed with lobster while the light fades across the marsh and that's about as good as summer in coastal New England gets.
Seriously, write this down. You'll thank me later.
