Imagine if Yellowstone National Parks Tourists just constantly dug holes, shat everywhere, around/under/on top of everything, within a day or two no one could walk because the trails would be full of human excrement, the environment would be destroyed by everyone making trails everywhere to avoid the shit and of course shitting on said newly made trails.
Bears, Cougars, Wolves, and more would be constantly digging around for food/beer/corn/drugs in that human shit and now you can't even look around Yellowstone, because its a festering pile of shit.
Leave no trace also applies to deserts(closest to California/Texas) because that shit will be there long after your corpse gets cremated and rock tumbled into powder.
