I've done years of hard labor outdoors with one of these (mine is just black, no colors) and it's never let me down. It's gotten a bit scratched up but no problems whatsoever. Alarms, can light up at night, water resistant (I've swam and showered with it on, no issues) and it was like $12

No need buying some expensive HEAVY DUTY RUGGED OUTDOORSMAN watch that's just gonna get scratched up and maybe lost

I've always found these g-shock and derivatives of it annoying to look at, given the unnecessary clutter of the face.

Not even that it has features I may or may not use, but like that has a compass/GPS looking indicator, some sort of battery bar indicator, and something reminiscent of a radar report, all just to say two letters to represent the day.

Mine is a GW-7900 solar edition. I take this bad bitch to work, hiking, and fishing. It's solar powered but lasts over several days if it is absent of light, and even if it runs out it syncs up to the atomic clock radio broadcast! It also has moon phases, dual time clock, multiple alarms, a tide clock as well. It's a good watch and I highly recommend it.

I get your point, but it's not nearly so obnoxious as that, and doing outdoors work, nobody cares about your watch anyway. If you find yourself in a crew that gives a fuck about the brand of your tent, or boots, or watch, or whatever, get out of there. Don't associate with homosexuals of that degree. Yeah I was a bit annoyed by the unnecessary shit at first, like that changing display in the middle that seems to display seconds in some abstract, useless manner, but I just stopped paying attention to it.

I enjoy minimalist equipment that just does what it's supposed to do and nothing else, but it seems like that shit is more expensive and more fragile than shit like the watch in question, so whatever. It's cheap, sturdy, and functional, so who cares?

People say hey, just put your boots in your sleeping bag so they don't freeze. Good advice if needed, but fuck that if you've been walking through swamps and cow shit all day. I have that one and it's pretty good. Hot or cold weather, swimming, shooting shotguns, furiously fapping, it an withstand all abuse. Only real downside is screen illumination getting weaker after some years. Also avoid to take showers with your watch on, shampoo makes resin bands rot.
