>>2579216I live in central Maine. It is nice, the folks are pretty nice as well. I enjoy the nature but hate the winters. Our costal ecosystems, forests, mountains, and big ass lakes are picturesque dream /out/ places though. I'm still learning to appreciate it and not look to the tropics while taking for granted what's at home.
Cities and establishments as well as the majority of southern maine are super leftist, but the second you go north past bangor or west past Mt vernon its redneck small town country. Trout fishing in the west and north is supposedly sublime, but I'm retarded and have never caught a trout with hook and line. I'm only 20 though so don't get too mad at me. My bro says they are pretty much guaranteed if you take the drive to get to redneck country. I was up north recently, trying to track down sculpin for my aquarium, and I netted more baby trout than any other minnow I was looking for. Central, southern, and eastern maine however are dogshit for trout fishing, hence why I never caught one before. The other fishing is fine statewide though. Absolute shit ton of huge bass, pickerel and perch, as well as good pike and crappie which are rarer. Striped bass also run up the rivers every summer. Thing is that the fishing seems very on and off. One day there will be nothing, but the next the fish will be clamoring over eachother to bite your line. Likely due to the roller coaster weather and the heavy seasonality of literally every fish prey item that lives here. Fish will be MIA then once some type of fly hatches they are biting every cast. Blackflies, mayflies, dragonflies, etc. Then theres the alewife runs and fish spawnings. All of these are very brief and have to be taken advantage of for good shallow water fishing. Fortunately once summer is here the fishing is consistantly good until it gets cold again, and then you can still catch the fish if you want to icefish the bottom to get to them.
