First hammock camp

No.2580513 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
Thoughts on the bad:
>I have no idea what "5 or 10 lbs of pressure" means with regards to the hammock ridgeline tautness. because of this, had some slight calf ridge but didn't bring a pillow for underneath my knees
>internet weather temp suggested it was quite a lot warmer in the night than it actually would be
>didn't know how to adjust my underquilt right and had to wear my hood because my head was cold. butt was also cold so I suspect the foot end needed to be cinched more. Began to sweat a bit so undressed as the night progressed
>had several nightmares:
>1: moose buck entered my campsite and charged me in the woods but it was pitch black and my headlamp was dead
>2: climbing on a rock scree and the whole cliffside collapsed
>3: had battle on a oil rig with bad guys. Their mouths were filled with a black tar infection shit and their wolf bit me and I couldn't wash it off
>4: false awakening to boomers saying we couldn't camp here, that this was private property
The good:
>slept like 6 hours and feel rejuvenated waking up to the sunrise and birds chirping
>mosquitos weren't nonexistent
>the free crown land site was quiet apart from the sound of birds chirping and the overflowing river rushing. eschewed the few RVs by going off the beaten path
>dead birch tree offered plenty of usable firewood
>hammock-able trees were plentiful
>was pretty comfy all things considered and glad to be off the ground
I think I will have to make my tarp a bit more tight at the top next time, and shorten the shock cord for doors and guylines. Also need trekking poles for porch mode and longer zing-it for the stakes.

10/10 would newbie camp again!
