Got caught speeding in Finland on an empty highway and decided to just take off across the border. The speeding ticket was above $8000. It must have been corrupt cops, right?

Any good /out/ in Sweden north of Lulea? I'm doing car camping and backpacking national parks for a week max.

Anyways, in Finland those speeding tickets are calculated based on your salaries, so technically it could be possible. Some millionaire got fined 95 000€ for doing 77 in 50 zone.

That is because otherwise rich people wouldn't care about those fines at all. Some affluent people have been fined 112 000€ for doing 82 in 60 zone and another has gotten 74 000€ fine for doing 112 in 80 zone. You will get fined with such "day fines" (päiväsakko) if you drive 21km/h or more over the speed limit. Essentially the amount of "päiväsakko" is the amount of that you would lose if you were imprisoned for one day. So, what we learn is that you shouldn't play around with the speed limits here.
