If you are planning on going make sure you bring a really good sleeping bag and yoga mat and also earmuffs. Also bring a solar phone charger.
Don't tempt going onto a train with holes in the floor thinking you can jam yourself into the corner, you will be riding that shit for hours and you will want to lie down. Also make sure you hide yourself well and stay out of sight of bystanders and the public because they will get you caught.
If the train stops you might have to get off and hide until it starts again. Don't get left alone in the middle of nowhere.
The views are really nice though. Basically the only purpose of train hopping is for the experience and the photos/videos. Most people who do it are rich enough to book a plane ticket. It only makes sense in the USA because you got a lot of ways to go.
I can see why people and other riders don't recommend doing it but I think it's worth it. You just need to be very careful. Don't go trying to hang off the sides or anything, the trains are serious business.
