First time actually using it trekking along the rhine river.
So uhm...there is still visible particles in the water after filtering. Is my stanley dirty or is my filter broken and I'm about to shit my soul out?
Is it supposed to taste neutral? It doesn't. Any help will be much appreciated I am kinda dehydrated

Sounds fucked. Shoulda bought a sawyer like everyone else does. Take it apart and make sure everything is where it should be and tightened down properly. It’s a water filter that can filter out things that are less than human hair size. If you can still see particles then it’s not filtering.

The chance of water being contaminated is very low to begin with. The particles could be from the filter itself, since it’s brand new. I’ve seen water come out black from the very first few pumps, though I’m not sure if the particulates were large enough to be tasted (obviously he didnt drink black water).

You don't drink water from the rhine river because of the chemical pollutants. No filter can help you with that.

Sawyers work good, make sure you carry a extra O ring or two, I have had them fail to seal and unfiltered water will slowly run down the side into your “clean” container, I almost didn’t realize it at first

I don't think this model actually has charcoal in it's filter wich is why I was so concerned but it's been almost 2 days now an I'm fine so I guess it works. Thanks for the answer on the taste. It doesn't bother me I just wanted to be sure

I'm interested in purifying water, so far I've only carried store bought mineral water because I refuse to drink tap water since i got redpilled on the issue. I wonder what the waters are like where i live now

I used old german army purification tablets before I got this filter and they do work great but it tastes like swimming pool. But you aren't supposed to use em regularly. These where leftovers from my service 15 years ago lol. I still have tons of old rations

anyone ever experiment with making a crude pre-filter? i have a fish tank so i was thinking of having some plastic straws on hand and making a charcol filter rig that would serve as something semi-disposible before a real filtration like this:

OP here. Yep the filter didn't work. I just woke up with the same symptoms as last time but luckily a lot less shitting so far. Glad I went home yesterday because today will be ugly.

I have pre-filtered water with a bandana 100 times. Where I used to hike all the creeks were muddy AF so it helped the filter last longer between flushes.

If it’s your first time using it you’re supposed to pump it till the silicon processing residue runs out. I’m betting you neglected to run it beforehand so don’t worry about it just pump it till the water runs clear then you ought to be good to go
