I just bought a kelty cosmic down 20 degree bag at a local outdoors store on sale for $90. It was regularly $150. I would recommend it. It seems to be great, although I obviously haven't taken it out yet.

The Kelty Cosmic Down 0 degree will be comfortable at 20 degrees (assuming you are a man). I find the Kelty down bags to be a nearly unmatched value. If you're willing to spend more, there are plenty of options. Would NOT recommend a 20 degree bag for ~20 degree camping unless you don't mind sleeping in a bunch of insulated clothing.

the 20-30 degree range can be tricky because you still have to worry about stuff getting wet and matting your down, so sleeping in damp clothes can be potentially dangerous.

It ripped on a small thorn.

I patched it and it's all good now. Warm as fuck. Even though it ripped, I'd still recommend it.

Like I keep fleece blankets for the spring, summer, fall (live in AZ) and a couple different bags for winter. I need to drop a couple thousand $$$ on about 3-4 new super compressible bags...

I do 3-season camping (mostly summer though like most) but for the winter I crash at my friend's place a lot on the weekends and have to sleep in his basement where it's colder'n fishcunts.

After using a fleece sleeping bag (liner) last weekend and staying awake all night seeing my own breath shivering, I decided to buy a proper bag. Which I just did.

ladies and gentlmen, I give you the 20º Browning™ Yellowstone® sleeping bag.

It's quite amazing. I certainly wouldn't sleep outside in the winter in it (I guess) but should keep me toasty in a 30º basement... especially after using the damn fleece thing.

Cost me $100... do I deserve ridicule for this or did I get something good?

Looks like a perfectly serviceable sleeping bag, anon, so long as it fits with what you are doing.

That and a decent (but not necessarily expensive or overly technical) sleeping bad should keep you cozy in most conditions outside snow camping or mountaineering.

For camping, get a light weight foam or blow up pad. For bunking in your buddy's basement, you can probably just get a cheap air mattress from a department store.

Thank you sir. Yeah I got it to fit my needs, not to fit *all* needs so I'm pretty happy. If I got something warmer it would be a nightmare camping in the summer. I sleep in a hammock so you kinda need something over you at all times to keep the breeze and dew off, even if it's warm out.

I have a pretty good sleeping pad actually... one of these foldable foam crate kinds. i almost always am either in the hammock or on a cot though so I should be good... if I ever sleep on the gound I'll be sure to bring the pad though!

eh it's not too bad... as long as you plan for rain before it starts. as you can sorta imagine from this pic, you can slant the sides down and make an eave in the roof. there are loops in the corners so you can tie the sides down and keep them from blowing up/around.

it's water resistant enough but if the water starts to pool on the roof it'll drip in. plus the actual hammock is just canvas so once it gets wet it wicks straight through and you get wet

still, i've never needed to put a tarp up... but i also generally avoid inclement weather
