Very cold and/or snowy trails/parks/etc. in the US/Canada (lower 48 preferred)

Hi there. I live in Texas but am cursed to love the snow and the cold. Not to be too much of a downer, but seeing the effects of climate change has made me realize that the timeframe to conveniently experience things like frozen lakes and glaciers in my lifetime may be limited. I'd like to take some time to be out in some very cold areas this winter. I have lived in a colder climate before where temperatures regularly went down below freezing and always loved it, so for a Texan at least I've always had a decent tolerance for low temperatures.

Considering I'm a complete beginner, where would you suggest I go? No matter what kind of /out/ activity it is I'm going to need to prepare first, but hardcore mountaineering and snowshoe hiking is probably a tall order for someone with no experience.

Thanks for the input and please forgive me if I've made any common n00b mistakes as a first-time poster on this board and beginner at this hobby.
