"Muh ticks" is such a cope excuse for not going out, every place has got annoying or dangerous critters. In the southwest desert there are no ticks but there are rattlesnakes that can easily kill you. In Alaska there are neither ticks or snakes but instead grizzly bears and moose that can stomp you to death and hundreds of mosquitos all over you.
At least unlike snakes and bears, if you've got a tick on you there's some time to get it off before it gives you a disease, and its not like the disease is that serious unless you decide not to get treatment for it. I've hiked in tick country and some parts of the forest are infested with ticks while others have none at all, you just gotta learn about your environment and take precautions to avoid a bad time.
