You must live in a cliquish and dependent part of the world then. Where I'm from, we value independence and aren't insecure cowards like you. This doesn't mean that we never go /out/ with our friends, families, and significant others. But we aren't afraid to go outdoors by ourselves either. Most people do actually. You must live in a really shitty environment if people really make those assumptions.

You have to have a smartphone and be looking at it and act like you're having important or amusing interactions with others on your phone. You also have to make sure to keep the walk to a sexy, socially acceptable duration and at only certain times of day. If you want to go on more than a 15 minute walk, you have to go somewhere remote. If someone sees you emerging from the remote location and can tell how long you were there, then it's just as bad as if you had been walking in front of them for a few hours. i dont mind dogs but generally they're too energetic and clingy for me

it can't be helped

biggest concern with dog is ticks and other insects being brought into my house. if there was an animal that contributed to removing insects from my property i would domesticate it. some kind of animal that would compulsively check me for parasites when i walk through chest high brush.

I want one pretty bad but I am in a contract with the navy where I have to go active duty as an officer in two years and I owe them 4 :( Have no gf or anyone who could watch him if I got deployed so I just dont think its a possibility.

Also i've only had chihuahuas my whole life growing up. Got attacked by a Doberman at work a few years ago and honestly I have wanted one ever since. Not because of the attacking part but damn they are just gorgeous dogs. I have never had a big dog though so maybe I wouldnt like it.

porcupines are such bastards, had this happen to my dog too. wasn't nearly as bad as that, we were able to get most of the quills out using pliers but still had to go to the vet...$600 to get the rest removed and get some meds.

that porcupine never bothered anyone ever again, though. i made sure of that.

I didn't want a dog but I got stuck with one. She is a great walker, doesn't pull on the leash, doesn't bark (while walking, she defends the yard) and never gets tired despite being a senior dog. I used to walk a lot on my own but now I feel really bad if I don't bring her.

Mine found a hedgehog and scampered under a railing to get it. The dog was cutting up its mouth really bad, but I couldn't get hold of her because she was biting the poor little fucker and also evading my attempts to grab her at the same time. Must have continued for 2-3 minutes and I was completely fucked off by the end.

That dog got a smack on the nose and put to bed early I won't lie.

I dont like dogs as my grandma was an irresponsible dog owner during my childhood.
The dog she had was big enough she could barely keep it under control, as if that wasn't bad enough on its own the dog was also a rescue that used to live with junkies so it was always on edge.
The dog didn't like social activities and would sometimes just snap and enter attack mode for no reason.
What's even worse is she would defend its behaviour with excuses, like "don't look directly at him or he'll take it as a threat and try to attack you" or "he isn't used to being in your home and saw the toddler as an enemy".
Just realized this post became kind of a rant, so i'll wrap it up with saying this: If you're going to have a dog, then make sure you're strong enough to restrain it, and be sure to raise it properly.
