Do you think giant gold nuggets or veins of gold like you see in movies can still be found out there somewhere? Even in the richest gold mines today most of the gold isn't even visible and has to be crushed out of the ore.

Absolutely. It’s just wildly inaccessible and in inhospitable lands. I did a bit of reading about the gold rush back in the day and it’s absolutely fascinating. It basically took you a year just to get to the gold site and that was with the help of all the frontier towns. The chance of you finding the river those nuggets are in is virtually nil, but good luck anyway.

I metal detected on an old gold claim in NWT owned by a guy in West Vancouver.

Deal was I only went in old tailings areas.

My reasoning in bigger stuff was screened off thinking no big pieces were undiscovered.

Found 8 oz total, average size 1/4 oz with the largest being a 2 oz monster. Had to share half with him.

yep their still out there but very difficult to find. More often than not their located by pure luck or chance in todays age.

Here's a chunk located by metal detectorists in Nome AK not to long ago. They were searching old dredge waste.

The most abundant element on a planet would be super expensive and scarce if all of it is at least 10 miles beneath the surface, surrounded by granite. Even though it's the most common element on the planet in question, it would be very scarce as a usable resource.
