I'm spending some time in Oslo for a week, and Tromso for two weeks later in the month. What are some good things to do here?

Generally avoid oslo and go to any other part of norway and you'll be 100% less likely to hate norway and norwegians, same with sweden and stockholm. /Swede

In Tromsø, if you're staying in the actualy city for a day, you should visit "Polarmuseet". They have exhibitions about arctic life on Svalbard, various hunting and also about Roald Amundsen and Fridtjof Nansen. Lots of old stuff to look at, really puts the city in a historical context (even though most of it is about Svalbard, Tromsø was the base of operations).

The Norwegian Trekking Association just bought and rehabilitated Lågøya. If you want to chill and swim, thats a good option.

Tromsø is unlimited options for nice Sky Trails. Rent a car and do not mind the weather.

I really do like to visit Stockholm, but for the sole reason to visit museums, castles and stuff like that. They have a trove of history that I really enjoy visiting.

Having that said, I would never live there. Not only do I not like "the big city" it's also overrun by poor people, immigrants, crack-heads and globohomo hipsters.
And the ven-diagram for these categories is usually a cirkle in my experience.

I mean, at least it's not Malmö!

From someone who grew up in Oslo: it's unappealing. Just normal overcrowded citylife full of carefree people. It's overpriced staleness, especially compared to the /out/doors you can experience by leaving the pot.

Went to Tromso 2 years ago. 1 night Tromso, 3 nights Svensby. Beautiful location. Went to the Steindalsbreen glacier, usually an easy hike but when I went there were harsh conditions. Climbed some mountains around Lyngenseit, more than enough trails there.

As anon said above, hike to blue lake&visit the Fjords.
The finnish-swedish-nordic border is perhaps a nice place to visit. Go by yourself, fuck guided tours.
