you're barely getting any exercise since the bike does 90% of the work for you.
it's battery powered meaning you now have one more thing you need to remember to charge.
they're still rather pricey, despite having been on the market for years now.
repairs require electronic know-how that the average guy doesn't have.
they're not even environmentally friendly due to the batteries, motors and computers needed by e-bikes.
i do however get wanting a motorized bicycle, just not electric ones.
personally i believe mopeds are the superior choice.
no need to charge, runs on commonly available fuel.
repairs are so easy that anybody with a wrench set and a few screwdrivers can do it.
used mopeds are cheap and there's lots more forums about mopeds than about e-bikes.
if you get a vintage one it's more environmentally friendly than buying a new bicycle.
if you want bike pedals then there's mopeds that have them.
TLDR; avoid e-bikes and just buy a moped instead
