Are the any good for protection when /out/?
Like, handling hot pots and protection against spikes.

Used one in the military when changing the barrel in a machine gun after shooting a belt.
Got no serious injuries, but the glove burnt in an ugly way and had to repair it.
Get some metalsmith/soldering gloves. Mechanix gloves are ok for light gardening or protection against dust, some bushes and sand, nothing more.

I use palm dipped working gloves. a thin pair and a thick pair. maybe even a winter pair but it doesn't get that cold here.
only the winter pair would have any real insulating properties, but the normal gloves are just enough to stop a pot from actually burning you when you take it off the fire and set it on the ground.

I use glove to keep my hands clean, protected from brambles, stings or being burnt and they assist with gripping a slingshot pouch so you don't have to squeeze as hard.

I'm not an animal so I don't dig holes with my hands or do much that requires big heavy gloves so the cheap ones do me fine

Literally any decent leather glove will do. I like the petzl cordex for things like you're describing.

Carhartt thick gloves are great protection, but any old quality ($5-10/pair) work glove will do well. Maxiflex are very solid and standard issue for higher end construction contractors. I think Milwaukee makes a comparable lineup.
There's thicker ones for cold weather.

Based. I have a pair of store-brand cow (or maybe goat) hide gloves I use for shit around camp. They work pretty well for saving my hands from grabbing shit like a caveman with no self-preservation instinct.

Any glove will do, but leather is best.

Not for work but when out as a pothandle, boat rowing, rigging, wood chopping, collecting birch wood for fires, setting the tent in bad weather, bushwhacking, sun protection, mosquito protection. Haven't found a better glove for boreal/subarctic trips, except in a Canadian homedepot they sell cheap thin velour leather gloves. Those were better and fire resistant.

Get wet too easily, and they become slippery af when wet.
Sweaty and disgusting too.
If you want good and really cheap gloves, goatskin is nice, though I prefer something a bit thicker, but not full on welding gloves.
I fucking hate dipped gloves, worst invention ever.

I use a pair on M-Pacts for work and /out/, and I usually run another pair of them in the winter. I like the ones I have because I'm a retard and they've saved my knuckles and fingers a bunch of time. The unarmored versions of them are lighter, and fit better when stored. Probably more breathable too. All around good gloves, they're an essential.
