summer? what country you from? everywhere with good /out/ings will be 35C+ and dry or 40C+ and during monsoon season, just be aware. Doesn't matter if you 4x4, but if youre trekking just get used to packing heaps water.

Northern WA (Pilbara & Kimberleys) and basically all of the tropical Queensland coast are great, best in Autumn. Tallest mountains are on the east coast, good trails everywhere. Tropical and subtropical reefs on every coast except the south, fishing everywhere, hunting for tourists is non-existent.

Tasmania has good temperate rainforest, along with the mountains in the southeast near Melbourne. Southwest WA has massive old-growth forests that have a similar climate to northern california and the Stirling ranges. Pack sunscreen.

What part are you going to? I have been to Australia a few times and am currently in the Northern Territory. I wouldn’t come here in the wet season as it’s very hot and rainy and full of crocodiles although if you’re very adventurous and willing to put up with heavy rain every day it might be ok.
If you’re going to the south of Australia like Melbourne or Tasmania there’s /out/ things to do and it’s very nice but you better book early because the cabins on routes for multi-day hikes fill up. New Zealand is another place to look into at that time. Obviously beaches are a big thing in the summer since almost all of the country lives in coastal cities.
I haven’t been to Western Australia. The middle of Australia is a desert with a big rock called Uluru in the center that’s very /out/ to get to.

Yeah just ignore NSW and Queensland as its just for tourists and boomers i reckon..

Tasmania is pretty stunning.
NT is noice outback but never relax,especially not in Alice springs...
WA is pretty vast too.

If you spend the winter in the NT prepare to get cooked by the sun and your throat fucked by the silica sands. apart from that the bush is pretty awesome with many different animals and bugs.

There are some mountains that get alpine if you like to be frozen as well, plus the west side gets fairly dry if that's more your speed. Desert is limited to the mainland and there's plenty of it to go around. Lots of interesting and spooky stories about some deserts as well.
Australia is so /out/ that pretty much everyone who lives in the countryside loves camping, it's only people who were born in the city that don't care for it much and even then there's always a mass exodus on long weekends of city-slickers coming out to the country to camp (mostly car camping but still).

I wouldn't come in summer though, even the coldest places can get 35c-45c and we're a much dryer country than the USA generally so there wont necessarily be much water to filter.

nah fraser has some of the most incredible lakes, landscapes and dunes ive ever seen. you can walk the island in a week and a half, ive only done the bottom half but its spectacular. You can just sleep on the sand without a mat as well its pretty comfy
