Get a merino blend. I have 100% merino for casual wear, and 80/20 merino/poly blend for active wear. Benefits of merino, plus the added abrasion resistance of poly.

Same for shirts and other base layers.

Well sometimes yes they are. She is a tremendous walker and does sacrifice her feet to do the incredible number of miles she does.

But they heal. She showed them once on like only day 3 of one of her many thru hikes. They were dirty, yes, but that is not bad. They were otherwise in fine shape. I can imagine at one of her trail stops it would be good, for example if her muscles were tight from all the miles, that someone would offer to lovingly wash her feet for her so she didn't have to stoop over.

Saxx. They're expensive, like $20 a pair, but they were a game changer. Room for your nuts, take much longer to get stinky, tight enough to keep bugs (like ticks) out, but loose enough to still be very comfortable. A friend of mine introduced me to them while we were on a two week camping trip, and I thought he was exaggerating but I bought a single pair to test it out, and it was all true. Now I have 3 pairs and they're my favorite underwear by far. Good underwear is almost as important as good socks, IMO

I cheated smartwool. I have a pro account (40% off), but I abuse their warranty. As one anon said merino wool is great but gets thin on inner thighs.
