How likely are you to encounter an animal with rabies if you're camping for a week or so? Pennsylvania BTW.

Unlikely, rabies has a long incubation period then causes disorientation and death within days, most rabid animals are asymptomatic and can't transmit the virus yet. They aren't bloodthirsty or something just confused and most likely to bite their own kind or spread it to a predator since those will go close without fear.

You may correct about crackheads, but if I were a serial killer, not that I am, I would lurk deep innawoods going after remote campers who are far enough away from anything to scream or call for help. Also, because of the remote location, I wouldn't be stressed about somebody coming by and casually discovering my misdeeds until I was long gone and any trace evidence had already been destroyed by weather or local wildlife. Combine that with the fact that I have no connection to the victims and no real motive, and I could go on like that for many years with little to no risk of being caught. Especially if I constantly roamed the country and didn't stay in the same woodland area. Again, not a serial killer.

Bats are the worst because they can bite you in your sleep without you feeling it and they fly. A ground animal with rabies would be easy to spot and avoid.

I was near a cave and there was a bat flopping around hissing.. tried to flip it over with a short stick but it's equilibrium was fucked up
When I got home that day I googled what was wrong with it and Google said it had rabies and I was 100% going to die if I didn't get $6,000 shots
Called the CDC and they said it wasn't an exposure and I was fine
Spent a week stressed out wondering if the lady was wrong and if I touched it's saliva on the stick
Will never go near any wild animal again that shit is crazy
