Hey /out/,

I'm looking for a tent for stealth camping.

I need it to be a lightweight 3 season 2 person tent that has a full fly.

Ideally it should be under 150 US bucks (And able to be found in the US.)

Anyone know a good one? I've found out that amazon is absolute shit for these sorts of things.

It's not totally unreasonable. In Aus you can get these stealth tents for like $100 and they're great. I've had mine in some pretty wild rain and it went no problem. I wouldn't use it in the cold though.

might run you a little more and you won't be able to make sex but i would think the priority with stealth camping is to remain undiscovered and mobile

I'm willing to go for a 1 person if it has space for gear.

I'm new to small tents. Smallest I've been in was a huge ass 5 person Coleman.

I'm planning on making a 100 mile (Give or take a mile or two) Hike. Need somewhere to bug in for the night.

You could always go for a Hennessy Hammock. Lets you "stealth away" better as you can sleep above uneven ground. Also breaks up ground footprint, weighs very little, sleeps comfortably, and has an onboard bug-net.

I paid $99 for mine during an REI sale back in 2010 and have slept in it for a month at a time. Great piece of kit, very small/light, very stealthy, very comfortable, very weather resistant.

Hammocks definitely merit consideration for the OP's purposes.

Wrap your backpack in your poncho at night and it will stay dry under your rain fly.

Add "drip lines" to your tie-offs to prevent rain runoff from following down the tree and onto your hammock. Pitched correctly, a modern hammock will keep you super dry and comfortable when people in tents are getting soggy from underneath.

I use the Eureka! Backcountry 1 w/the ICS2000 Camo fly. In woodland pattern, the ICS2000 fly is milspec and has the blackout coating inside (thus a bit heavier) but shield the light so your tent isn't a glow dome if you have your headlamp or lantern on inside.

The ICS2000 is made for for the Backcountry 1 and clips right to the tent.

A very foomy tent with lots of headroom and a spacious vestibule with the ICS2000 upgrade.

I am very happy with this stealthy combo.

It's really that easy. It's about as "stealth" as you are going to get. Slept out in about -10 celsius iwth just the bivvibag and my artic sleeping bag inside.

I have the same question but with UK availability. all the tents i can find suggested on most sites are US only.

Going bike touring europe so weights not a massive issue nor is cold. just needs to be big enough for me + bags.

Did a good job and held up well, I went to a psytrance festival and it eventually got killed my people stumbling into it. This was anticipated though and which is why I bought a tent at this low price point - it was gonna be disposable for the trip. I was wwoofing prior to the festival and ended up sleeping in this tent for about 6 weeks at my woof hosts farm, it was a little small but easily do-able.

When actually on the road, I'd often just find a place by the side of the road to sleep out of sight. I'd just climb in the tent inner on the floor and use it as a mosquito net, worked pretty well.

Where you planning to tour?

This was on my short list of tents.

I'm gonna head into town next weekend and visit go outdoors and other local camping shops to see some tents in person before i decide.

Preferably after something black or green to keep more hidden but it wont be the deciding factor.

Route wise depends on where i start. A few friends are going to visit one of our friends who lives in Granada in Spain in may.

I might fly into there with the bike and gear, go on the mates holiday for a week then head off. If not will start in Calais.

will be spain or france > belgium > netherlands > germany following euro velo 15 up river. Will end following EV7 to Malta to visit family.

Between EV15 and getting into Italy i'm not decided on route yet. not sure if to go straight to italy from euro velo or head more east first.

In all honesty, expensive ultralight tents are overrated.

I just recently bought a Eureka Spitfire 1 person tent (haven't set it up yet to test it), BUT, I spent 4 months on the road with a shitty walmart 1 child tent for $20. I had to sleep corner to corner (5'9"), but had tons of room for all my gear and I liked it. Tossed a camo poncho over it for conceal.

why would you it in it? Just put something over it. I use a cheap camouflage tarpaulin. It works like a apside. Enough place for your gear, cooking and eating.

Big Agnes Seedhouse SL1 has done pretty good for me.

However after about 100 nights the seams on the fly leaked and i had to re-tape them. This was probably my fault because I frequently packed the tent while it was wet.

these tents stealth level can't compare to a bive

they make "bivy tents" op. in the healy hammock i use, with the light tarp i pin near my head the bivy esque bugnet becomes a stealthy ass tent within minutes. literally all i need for setup is a few sticks or a few tree branches. very light pcord is used instead of poles

idk just seems like if you really wanted stealth you wouldn't use a proper tent
