I wasn’t sure exactly how much fat cable weighs, I haven’t looked at it for over 10 years so I went and did a quick search again and found picrel. If we choose the beefiest cable they do then at 4000m the force of the cable acting on itself at the pulley is about 40*1600kg=64 tonnes, double that for the safety factor and the rope needs to be able to withstand a force of 1,280,000newtons just to stop itself snapping. Impressively it looks to be within the realm of what that rope can achieve, pretty mega. Would love to know the price of what 4km of that would be.
