There's appears to be a notch in the piece the bail is set. Either adjust the bail or the flat metal so that the bail sets in the notch and doesn't fall over into the fire.

Thanks for all the answers. I'll try bending the metal near the bail. Mine can't be removed unfortunately there are some bends keeping it in the kettle.

Take a welder's glove camping it's insanely useful for grabbing hot things and rearranging the fire where you can just grab a burning log and put it exactly where you want it.
