How strict are permits/camp rules enforced in the US? Here I can tell the forest jannies to piss off but from what I've heard all the national parks (that I'm visiting) are strict on enforcing no camping rules or trail passes

It depends on what you are doing.

Are you going on some tourist trail with 5000 other people? You need to follow the permit rules.

Are you going into the backcountry with no one around? You will be fine.
