Why? I get they're good tools, but an axe (the whole tool) is gonna get beat to hell within 5 years of use anyways. Not to mention they're partially so expensive because they're imported if you're in North America. Honestly for the price you're paying you could probably commission an axe from a blacksmith in your area or just buy a new council tool every two years.

Another point I'd like to bring up is you're really paying for the handle more than the axe head. An axe head will last decades if oiled regularly, the handle will shatter much sooner than that. A lot of North American brands have great axe heads now, on par with Scandinavian and German companies even, but their handles still have incorrect grain orientation or flaws like the grain being too short. You can remedy this by buying an axe in person.
