I'm going to be going on my first hike. It's going to be in Kozara national park.

Outside of the basic equipment what are some things I should know?

Wikipedia says this is a popular hunting area, not sure if there's many people hunting this time of year but if there are wear something bright orange, like a hat or jacket.
Look up 10 essentials, when you get or build your first aid kit make sure you know how to use it. If you're going solo and there's no cell phone reception consider buying a Garmin. If you are going solo probably pick a popular hike the first few times.

looks like its got elevation, I'd bring a trekking pole. Have a map or know your trail route. Bring decent shoes/boots. Check the weather and dress/wear sunscreen/brimmed hat or rainjacket accordingly. Remember to contemplate your existence in the midst of nature's magnificence. Have fun!
