i can count on one hand the amount of ticks ive ever gotten on me. fuck sakes I did a 7 hour hike through tall grass last weekend and had zero. 1.5 hour hike this weekend through some brushy forest, fucking zero. its honestly disappointing, like what gives?

same here anon. I went on holiday for a month recently and was pulling about 5 a day off my dog whereas I only found two crawling on me the entire trip and I wasn't taking any special precautions. I guess some people are just tastier than others.

Don't drink any coffee or sugary drinks/foods, avoid obvious areas that avoid wind completely, or smells like odd lingering piss (if it smells like piss you've walked into an actual mosquito nest and god rest your soul)

Dog ticks give you Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever which transfers in as little as 3 hours, and has a 30% fatality rate. Deer ticks only give you Lyme which takes 36 hours to transfer from the tick. So if you check yourself every time after you've been in the woods, a deer tick will never get you with Lyme. But if you find a dog tick on you, you're probably already a dead man.
