>>2609564Well having some kind of a bug out bag makes sense if you are preparing to be homeless. I had many instances of what you describe when either cycling far away from home and not making it back on time or when I was looking for a place to buy land on tight budget.
I always had a roomy nylon rain poncho, a head lamp, spare socks and plastic bags to keep them dry inside soaked shoes, alcohol stove and stainless bottle to boil water and use as a body warmer and some form of a sit pad to stay dry and warm until morning. I since upgraded my "adventure" EDC backpack with proper emergency sleeping gear and feel confident to be lost for days now. Water can be found easily if you carry some sawyer/life straw filter. Food is a problem though I would advice against begging so looking for some homeless kitchen is much better option. Also don't sleep in cities if you are fucked and lost without a shelter, bums will gang up on you, people will call cops if you just lay down somewhere and it's also filthy etc. Also don't forget to bring some soap and towel maybe a small mirror and scissors if you care about NOT being permanently homeless of course.
