Find a cool place at least 10km from your home to start with, or the spot you will park your car, now make a path to it. I usually take dirty roads to high places with a good view of the countryside around my town, but sometimes i have to navigate through the woods or open Fields.
Go doing that until you have to go farther and farther away, onde day you will see yourself having to sleep before completing the trip, so you find a good spot with the help of the map.
Idk your climate, here there are thicks and mosquitos, snakes from the coffe plantations and bad stuff, so i use pants and secure it inside my boots, and have a long sleeve in my backpack.
Use a bag with a pair of socks, powder for your feet, and water, if it rains is good to have a poncho, if there is too much Sun, a hat. Use your good reason and measure what you will bring with you. If you want to bring a folding knife let it inside your pants or shorts pocket, if you get to need it there will be no time to get it from your bag.
Be safe
