can you attach a pouch with a water flask to your backpacks chest belt? it's so annoying having to take off your bag to grab a chug of water so i figure i could sew a simple pouch for that?

No. Drinking through a filter is a meme. Stop and filter a bunch of water and drink clean water right from the bottle.

Get a better pack. Side pockets should allow you to grab a water bottle and put it back without taking off your pack. If you can’t do that, then it’s a design flaw for your intended purpose. Pic is an example.

Get a shoulder pouch for a smaller water bottle. It’s a good middle ground for replacing your poorly designed pack and stoping every time you want water.

There are some packs that have a molle attachment on the hip straps you can attach stuff to like extra pouches or Nalgene bottle holders. I have a Kifaru pack for hunting that has one.

If your pack does not have a pocket for a hydration bag, a hole to pass the tube through and a thing that you can tie the nozzle to, then you are doing it wrong. You need to hydrate continuously just like you sweat continuously. It takes time to get the water into your tissue and cells. If you are a fat fuck, you need more water. Even cheap military surplus packs have this.

Get one of these cheap molle bottle pouches. I use one to attach my bottle to my belt when doing field work & can't/don't want to carry a bag. Much better than having it swing around on a carabiner.
