Gonna be doing a 20 mile 2 day hike for the first time. Any often overlooked tips and tricks I should know before I go? Also, backpacking general

2 days for just 20 miles?
Are you going fishing or something, what are you doing with all the free time on the trip?
Wear some well worn in boots/shoes that don't cause blisters.
Drink some water.

Stretch when you break for a minute, when you get to camp. Constantly drink water, not like chug but just keep sipping because you'll need it especially in the beginning when you don't feel as dehydrated. Last point, you may not always be comfortable out there but it's part of the challenge is overcoming. That's more advice for the prep and experience; I don't think you mileage per day is extreme and assuming you're in reasonable health it's easily accomplished. When you wake up with the sun you have all day to hike.

Ways to get more water
I did a 10mile in 10mile out 2 day hike a few weeks ago and depleted my water supply totally by the time I got to camp. It was 90-100 degrees both days so if I didn’t bring a filter and redundant purification I would not have been having much fun. Also bring more food than you think you need

You need trekking poles. You can get them cheap from Walmart or something but you need them to take weight off your knees when you go downhill.

don't over pack water. I went on a 15 mile hike in a day with 2 gallons of water (im a big guy) and it sucked. bring a gallon at most.

We have a weird forest service trail that you just park and walk 10 miles into the forest. The first mile its about the size of a road then up to 4 miles in it's like a dirt sidewalk. Then after that most people turn around, at a waterfall. I did it in a day.
