i want to built a 19th century style country house.
how can i go about doing this? are there any books I can read?

my grandfather built his house and I want to top him and have something my offspring can live in 500 years from now

No house, even the best built ones, last 100 years without any maintenance and remain livable. My old house was 114 years old when I sold it, my "new" one is 80 years old this year. And I'm an American. The weak spot on even stone fortresses is always the wood in the roof, typical European castles would fall into disrepair in less than 100 years without maintenance, usually their roofs would collapse. So maintenance is really more important than design, but a mostly stone design would last longer than a mostly wood design. Don't fall for cement either, it doesn't last even half as long as real stone, unless you are using Roman cement and live near humid salty sea air.

There's nothing wrong with slow boards, especially for subjects like /diy/ and /out/ where the most valuable participants spend a lot of time afk doing it themselves or engaging in outdoor activities.
/an/ is canonically /k/'s wife and /out/'s mother.

Sand stone cuting and chesnutt tree carpenting huh and slate tiling ? This gonna take you half your life to do it alone basicaly.

Part of that is solved by just living in the house. If someone's living in a house then they'll be keeping it warm and relatively dry as a matter of course. It's when a house is empty that damp starts to get in, beams rot and roofs collapse.

OP might not be able to build a home that in offspring can live in for 500 years without any maintenance whatsoever but he can definitely build something that they could live in for 500 years without anything more than routine maintenance.
My grandparent's home was built in the 1600s and is still going strong.

believe it or not OP, a lot of country homes in Europe even "poorer" homes and not large mansion estates had a lot of people building them. It was a big reason you could have manors like that even without the current modern day tech we have today.

If you look at a lot of old country homes in New England and in Europe they are Big and have lots of bedrooms. Reason being you needed a lot of people to work the land, children to take up after their parents etc. Large estates of course had tons of space for servants and maids.
When homes were built it was often an entire town/county affair that farmers/tradesmen did as supplement to income.
A big issue is with these homes, maintaining them is very hard because you just don't have the people to do it, just isn't economical.

Op can just use stucco to get that look at a fraction of the price. Stone is expensive and cost prohibitive to work with.

If done right, stucco can last for years with minimal upkeep especially if you supplement your mix of cement with ash and lime.

It trowels on and dries quickly.

Same but aside from resources and skills issues it seems the biggest issue is actually zoning/regulations/code/bureaucracy
We'd have to find someplace rural but not fully in nowhere where it would be possible
