Found some property, its got trees and other bushes growing on it, but it has no topsoil, its 100% thickclay, I dont see how it would be possible to garden unless you brought in soil for raised beds. Where I am from I never experienced this type of topgraphy, theres always some topsoil / grass, but this property is 100% thick clay.

Anyone here offgrid on clay? How did it turn out for you?

Remediating thick clay naturally takes time. Look for free inputs.
#1 ploont stuff into it like groundhog radishes and kale that will infiltrate it
#2 find free tree mulch, if they will doomp it on your property, all the better (these tree companies love people that will take their “trash”)
#3 scatter biochar everywhere
#4 after you get cover crops growing on a segment, cover it with cardboard and tree mulch and let the worms go to town
The idea isn’t to dig up and amend your clay, it’s to simply put other stuff on top of it and let nature take its course. Good luck on your 10 year plan, there’s lots of things you get do to accelerate it that aren’t normie

>TLDR: Go notill, spread a no till cover crop seed mix (in book) clover rye and sunflower radish. And a legume with mycroziel fungi mix, cover with mulch (straw or whatever you want), and manure(whether natural or brought in) and wait for plants to start tapping the clay so water can infiltrate through the root systems holes which will effectively break up the soil and add it adds organic matter to your clay soil.

clay is the end product of the weathering of igneous rocks. If you want to push the clay back towards a more youthful soil, with more minerals, higher CEC, more productive, etc, you can add raw unweathered igneous rock. Basalt, Gabbro, etc These minerals, in conjunction with a comprehensive composting program will make gardening much more successful.

Been there, done that. Look for someone local selling large round bales of hay you can plant in hay using the Ruth Stout method and it will decompose , creating topsoil over the years.

It's slow method for soil remediation, but it works.

If there is an equestrian center near your property they will load your truck with horse manure for free. You have to let horse manure compost for a year before you plant in it but it will improve your clay soil.
TL:Dr - I work at a large equestrian center in the southeastern USA and will use our front end loader to load anyone that wants to haul manure away.

don't do this, most pastures are treated with broad leaf herbicide and it persists through the manure and will kill basically any plant except grass.

My family owns some properties in a biome in Canada which supposedly has terrible soil quality. It is very sandy and acidic, drains very easily and is prone to erosion. Are there any similar long-term plans to generate some arable land in this situation?

Valid point and concern. However, many equestrian centers do not use herbicides. We don't. I agree people should check to be sure to avoid herbicides.
We mow our pastures and overseed with grass seed during the growing season to keep broad leaf weeds from choking out the grass.

There's already two considerable blueberry patches that yield several KG of the things yearly. My grandmother and mother would make so many blueberry desserts over the years that I've gotten sick of them lol. Would like to convert a decent sized patch of it into arable land for gardening eventually.

Sounds like my summer house. Run cultivator erry year. 40 years later and it's still bertty tough but we don't run into rocks every other foot. Heck knows how much cow dung we've dumped in the plot.

I planted a bunch of ground cover to loosen the top few inches, purslane, clover, daikon, etc. Where I'm planting stuff that needs deeper roots I planted borage. We got an electric tiller and tilled in top soil. It fucking sucks to plant trees in, but it is what it is. Our ground is solid clay and huge rocks, garden has some kind of wilt disease in it, lotta amending the first year.

I planted ground cover and till it under each season here in Mid-Atlantic Appalachia. Clover, chickweed, wild flowers, and what not. I just till it under after spreading manure. After doing it for five years I have a solid 7 inch layer of nice black topsoil. Planning on getting some worms to super charge it next spring
