Anyone here wear barefoot shoes while /out/? What are your experiences with them? Any good recommendations?

I'm switching to barefoot shoes because I have giant fucked up ogre feet that are too wide for standard shoe sizes and I'm tired of my feet hurting. I'm like an 11 6E or some stupid shit.

I just hike barefoot (bring light sandals with a heel stral for scree)
It will hurt a bit at first but you will get stronger. Only need shoes below freezing.

Yeah when I'm not working I usually wear xero brand shoes, or some Chinese barefoot shoe. When I am working I wear vivobarefoot esc boots. I'm a park ranger so I'm always on my feet hiking around. I find that I need to remove the insoles on most barefoot shoes otherwise my foot gets pitched in a weird direction.

I had ops pic and vibram five fingers when I was in highschool some 10 years ago, but I feel like we now have shoes that work better and aren't as weird looking.

Yeah this.
And also be sure they have zero drop.
And little padding.
And a fairly flexible sole.
Oh wait now you are buying an actual barefoot shoe brand so maybe now is a good time to stop sperging out about people thinking you are following a trend despite the fact they actually don't care or even notice your footwear.

I switched to the jukitabi, just pull out the cheap insole they come with (I put in a thin gel insole with mine with a cut out section for the big toe) and they are the best "barefoot" footwear I've ever had. you get over the feeling of a separated big toe fairly quickly.

Pros:
>cheap af (like $50)
>durable
>many variations (steel toed, waterproof, winter, ect)
>lightweight
>amazing traction

Cons:
>you'll probably get called a weeb on anime imageboards if you say you wear them
>they may cause you to get strange looks
>have to buy special socks

OP ive had various models of softstar shoes (the same brand as in your pic) over the years. like for ten years or so and theyre pretty great and comfy but not very durable in wet and rainy coastal conditions. even just wearing them to work all year i found the heels would get worn out and holes in the leather. theyre from southern oregon so i guess its a lot dryer there. but for comfort and maximum toe splay they definitely are hard to beat. these days in the depths of winter ive been wearing lems boulder boots which also allow a fair degree of toe splay. i never feel cramped in them

I've found you can shoe goo the sides of your shoes up to offer support for an insole but still get nice movement in the shoe. not entirely barefoot but I like an insole for doing a week with a heavy pack.

I'll probably try these soon, how's the tread pattern? The first thing you notice when going to barefoot is how effective the heal lug is for grip, once you don't have it things get spicy.

i would say it can handle in mud or on wet rocks fairly adequately. i dont do much hiking in the mountains anymore so can only speak to travelling along the mudflats/shoreline and coastal forests

why do they do this? I just bought some to try out after reading born to run. paid a tenner for some ones off ali and they seem pretty good. just using them up and down the street for time being while I get used to them.
