inside a tarp you can fit anything
it's the biggest pro with a tarp, you can fit several people in there if you wanted to. + bags or even a bicycle laying on the side

If you're looking specifically at advantages of the tarp over the hammock, the tarp is more versatile. But they both have pros/cons and it's up to you to decide which you like more.

make simple guy lines using bowline and prusik knots with the length you want (I prefer arm's length) attach one end to a tent peg or wrap it around a nearby plant/stick and the other end to the tarp grommet. You can use sticks as quick release.

No knots, no plastic components or carabiners to adjust and you can create a whole spider web of guy lines for that perfect pitch.
