If you're fishing freshwater lakes for fish like bass, walleye, pike and trout I'd go for the Daiwa aird-x 2 piece and the Daiwa Laguna 2500 spooled in 15lbs braid with a 10lbs mono or fluoro leader. Very good for drop shotting, casting spoons, swimbaits, big jerk baits, can be used for trolling, etc. Should cost you around 120$ for the rod and reel and 30$ for the two spools. I'd get a few casting spoons on Amazon (off brand kastmaster) in 1/2oz. Ignore the baitcaster trolls. Baitcasters are very good but they are too specific to be as well rounded as a spinning reel

"Girls who fish" ie Country Girls are some of the dumbest, shallowest people on earth. Most of them would rather fuck their horse than you. If you want to fish, do it for yourself, at least all you'll have to be disappointed by is your lack of catching anything.

Just get a cheap rod combo, a starter kit, dig up some worms and look up how to set up a float rig or drop shot and you'll have more success than 90% of people who throw lures. If you hate it you'll only be out like $60.

if you get a kit try and get one with these hooks, the lead/tungsten will normally be painted to resemble an eyeball. I don't think it matters what color it is or if its painted at all. what matters is you ditch the plastic grubtail and put a nice chunk of worm instead. cast, let sink to desired depth, reel in as slowly as possible, and then slower than that. if you get caught in weeds give it a harsh jig, let it sink, then back to reeling in as slowly as possible. im a noobie fisherman and this is how i catch most of my fish. i like it because you only throw one piece of tackle into the water
