I have a modded CT200u-ex minibike I use to extend my range innawoods. I can fit everything I need in a crate and a day pack for a one or two nighter. The tank lasts me about 35 miles of hard climbing. 50 on flats. When planning trips consider your bike and the equipment needed to keep it running. If your bike dies on you, you're left to push the thing up or down hill and that 10 miles from a road that seemed easy suddenly just got a lot harder.
For my lawnmower engine on two wheels I carry:
1-gallon fuel can.
Wrenches and sockets (only the sockets and wrenches I need, no spares)
Spare chain (for if the chain breaks or get's thrown somewhere)
Spare CVT belt (torque converter for my minibike)
Gloves (for handling hot exhaust)
Some metal zip ties (to keep shit tied down)
Starting fluid. (lawnmower engine is lawnmower engine.
The most annoying part is shit will fall off whether you notice or not. So make sure things are strapped down. I have ammo cans for saddle bags which is where I put my tools. But even the cargo crate can throw shit out if it's not covered. Getting the bike to the innawoods can be a pain if it's not road legal. My bike isn't so I use a cargo carrier because it's only 125 pounds. But it was all worth is since a friend of a friend sold me it for less than $500 and my 20 year old shitbox honda is a shitbox honda.
