the only reason to go with wool when down exists is if you cant afford down.
if you care about pack size you want to invest in the high end $500+ bags using 950-1150+ fill power down. and you want to look for bags that use thin (more expensive) shell material.
one of the main differences between cheap and really expensive down bags is how small it packs.
picrel is the size difference between a ~$250 and a $~450 down quilt from hammock gear for example.

most weather that'd kill you in a shelter malfunction with a down bag, wool ain't gonna be warm enough for without being MASSIVE anyways.
either way synthetic apex insulation is still going to kick the shit out of wool in very very wet areas.
the main time i'd use wool is if my gear has to spend a period of time submerged or a long period of time on a boat/kayak. it starts making sense then.
