Is there anywhere in the western US where I can possible make money fossil hunting?
I have a 4x4 van and work remotely but spend a lot of time wandering aimlessly to clear my head

It depends on your location in the west coast OP. I have done this on the east coast. Not to sell anything but to have something to do while /out/.

California, Arizona, Idaho has good pickings from what I hear. You just need to identify the fossil bearing strata and the veins.

I can't speak to your part of the world but here in Virginia we have ancient sea life that produce a dot dash pattern in fossil bearing rock.

I think the catch with this would be selling them. Finding them is easy enough, hell, you can Google it these days.
But are people really going to pay for them? Can you convince people to pay for them?

I'll second that.
The real issue is trying to sell it. Never had luck with it & what i did have luck with, might as well just gave it away. None the less it's still fun going out looking and finding stuff,

Creekbeds and inactive seasom river beds are ur best bet, look those areas with lots of roundish rocks not covered in grime also if u see slate, dont bother

Pima mountain park, near tucson, arizona. I found a pretty big rock that I am 99% sure held a fossil in a dried out riverbed. My autistic ass smashed it against other rocks, and when I couldn't break it, I moved on with my hike. Im an autist monkey.
