When my oma died, my opa (who was aging and decrepit after several strokes) was being wheeled through the church where her funeral was to be held. She was a strong, proud, intelligent woman he met in Bavaria while stationed there, and together they had 12 children. Anyways my opa, who at this point could not interact with his surroundings let alone string a sentence together, heard the song Edelweiss playing on the piano for practice. He perked up, grabbed my mothers hand, and looked up into her eyes and told her "This was your mother's favorite song!" then requested this flower be engraved on her headstone.
