>>2623722the stereotypical log cabin here has a centre or 2/3 centred brick chimney with an open fireplace towards the main room that often also doubles as sleeping room in case of many people or just a small cabin with no dedicated sleeping rooms.
its also part of a wall and has a door leading to the citchen/entrance. there you see the back side of the chimney and a smaller cast iron cooking stove or just a basic jøtul. if it has separate bedrooms they will be two rooms behind here again.
if you arrive at one such cabin in -35 it will take almost a day to heat up the main fireplace and chimney, but once its up to heat it will remain hot through a night without fire and doesnt require much to maintain it. to not freeze to death at arrival you make a blasting fire in the citchen stove and start prepping food, once you have draft in the chimney you light up the main fireplace but remain in the kitchen until its above freezing in the main room.
once everything is hot enough you might not need the kitchen fire outside of cooking.
and that place used just foor cooking isnt enough to heat up the entire house during summer.
t. has spent a substansial amount of his life in such cabins and even owns one but its heavily modernised.
