I'm a Europefag who's gonna be attending college in Oregon next year. Where should I go /out/ing first? How badly do I need a car to /out/ as much as possible?

To the one retard who freaked out because I didn't give him my precise coordinates, wether or not I should get a car isn't dependent on my location - I'll be there a year, if I need a car to exit a 20 mile radius I need to know regardless of what's in the 20 mile radius

yeah if you need to go anywhere >20 miles you want a car. you can take a greyhound bus to portland but to get outdoors you will need a car.

I’ll also be attending OSU this freshman year, for forestry. I’ve been out a few times while there to tour & later for orientation, and there’s plenty to see & do, but you pretty much need a car. I’m not sure OSU is going to let you park a car anywhere as a freshman, space is limited, but I imagine it won’t be too difficult to find likeminded outdoorsmen and get out to see some cool stuff.

you might be better off with checking out some of the outdoor clubs at OSU, or fuck -- even craigslist and arranging some kind of ride share to wherever.

we have a bit of a problem with hobos in oregon, most of the 'cheap' cars are probably being used right now for housing.

yeah, i feel your pain. Have you been to corvallis though? it's a small-ish college town off the beaten path. i-5 is ~15 miles away.. the rest of the ways in/out are 2 lane rural highways (you wouldn't want to bike on those, trust me)

you really do need a car if you plan on leaving campus in any reliable way -- but caveat emptor if you plan on buying a cheapy used one.

There's plenty of casual /out/ within walking/biking distance of the university (hiking, natural areas). There's a ton more within an hour's drive of town, but you can find a friend with a car unless you're a mega sperg. There's also a hiking route to the coast that starts in town and has a bus that can take you back.
