China has tons of remote wilderness, the harsh geography is a big reason it was isolated from a lot of the rest of the world for thousands of years - steppe and tundra to the north, desert to the northwest, the world's largest mountain chain in the west and southwest, dense jungles and more fucking mountains in the south. much of inland China is arid and mountainous and desolate as fuck
