Anyone here got recipes they like for squirrel meat?
I find it's sorta like chicken but only dark meat chicken. So I've fried cuts of the meat and put them in a leafy salad and that was nice.
I've never tried any kind rabbit since yotes ate them all in my area.

Stew--lots of potatoes

Squirrel Bone Stock--Chestnut Stew (not even kidding).
If you are in to extra spicy you can make squirrel Bulgogi ... you could also do a version of Gyudon.

I cook it exactly like I cook chicken. I treat it no different. The hind and front legs made the same way I would make chicken wings. The core of the body cooked up just like tendies and thrown in with some rice or made into tacos or a hot dish. To that note if you boil a pack of uncle bens rice and cook up a squarell that is an amazing meal while camping. Treat it like chicken and you're golden. Don't go soup though; stew is ok soup is not. It gets greasy.
Pic related is the twofer I got last fall not more than 10 minutes out. Sat down and two came running out chasing each other. Reason I live the 20 gauge over my .22LR. Also it's more comfy and it doesn't feel like cheating reaching out and touching them half way across the woods.

That's stupid. Almost all of human advancement has been trying to hit things from a greater distance.
Also .17hm2 is GOAT for small game when hunting in the same context that you'd hunt with .22lr, but .17hm2 just BTFOs .22lr in every performance stat.
If you wanna hunt a little farther with the same game, then .17hmr is even better.

Some people get joy out of that. I get joy out of the finesse of bow hunting and the patience of small game hunting with a shotgun. If all I wanted was to kill a squarrel or rabbit I could just sit on my deck watching netflix then shoot them as they come along. Small game hunting at it's core isn't hard.

Going for a twofer in that scenario would be impractical and would most likely end up wounding the 2nd animal. Wouldn't want to roll the dice on an animal if I don't have to.

Not every thing has to be about precision or distance. Some times my lazy ass just wants to put in the bare medium and get fed. Squirrel is the most lazy ass hunting out there.

I wouldn't say you're missing out, but they are a good source of meat. I think it's far more icky eating ocean roaches than it is tree rats.

Yeah you make sense on both points. If I were a forest dweller I would be grateful for the meat, and I'd eat this instead of crab or lobster.

I said that too but I spent an afternoon gutting chickens once and for some reason that kind of numbed me. They really taste pretty good, in some ways it's easier to stomach to then venison taste wise. Once you get it skinned and pieced out its food like anything else.

Don't have more squirrel haven't hunted in awhile, so here's some beef I made
