I wash real dirty stuff like my hands when I've been working all day with soap and water, then jump in the creek for the sweaty funk. If I need to some sand from the bottom helps scrub off anything sticking to me. The creek is just cold as fuck tho.

If I really want a shower, I heat water on a fire and I have a Mustee durastall out back and a battery operated camp shower from Amazon. Picrel.

In the winter the shower stall gets moved inside and drains thru the floor. I melt snow on the wood stove, so it's basically the same as in the summer. It just takes up space in the cabin and there's not a lot to begin with. I don't get as dirty either as there's not as much to do in the winter.

Like people have for thousands of years, or how muslims do that ritual washing before praying. You take a bowl of water or go to a clean stream and splash your face and body with water, soap up and then splash some more water to get the soap off. Alternatively you can use a wet clean cloth, its not that hard anon you dont need fancy gear.

Try showering with just a coarse loofa and water for a month. I took the soappill 2 years ago without telling my wife for 2 months. She had no idea.

Nice. This guy gets it. I haven’t taken a shower in over two years. I use no soap, shampoo, deodorant. I DO sauna tho, see pic rel above. I do not smell. I can wear the same clothes and not sauna for a week and I will have only mild odor, not even a bad smell just a smell. Nah my guy, you don’t get it. I haven’t used any slop body products in two years and I don’t smell. Simple as. Sauna every few days, usually air dry. Sometimes I’m just on a bender and I don’t sauna for two weeks. Still don’t smell, or at least don’t smell BAD, like as BAD as I would smell every day before my next shower, despite showering less than 24 hours ago and using all the slop products. Lol. Also bugs and mosquitoes etc recognize my Chad status. Pic related I coaxed to land on me and I let him eat whatever he was eating for 10 minutes off my skin

You can see homemade strigil in pic, closest object on the bench. It’s basically a wooden knife you just use to scrape your skin with. Romans invented it

my relatives who lived in a village had a bathroom that was literally just an empty room with a drain in the floor. they would boil a big bucket of water, sit on a stool, and pour water with a plastic jug.
one of them even had a fancy wood fired water heater in there. I remember the smell so well.

Sounds like a LARP. I live off grid, and you get so filthy working in the woods that you need to wash daily or you're sleeping in filth. I mean just look at how dirty homeless people on the streets of LA get and they aren't doing anything but drugs. Now imagine how dirty you get cutting trails, looking for berries and mushrooms, and setting snares for food among everything else I'm doing to get ready for winter. I come in so dirty I can't imagine not jumping in the river and scrubbing myself down or heating water on the wood stove and showering up, soap or not.

I'm the first no-soaper itt and I told you I did it for 2 months before telling my wife and she had no idea. I'd also ask other people close to me (who would be honest) if I smelled before telling them I stopped using soap. They were all surprised and said I smelled normal. It's hilarious that people think everyone just smelled bad before soap.

I believe the real answer is because with soap you’re killing off the beneficial bacteria,and it lets other strains take over.

After a while of no soap, the beneficial strains prevent other types from colonizing your skin. But like heavy doses of antibiotics murder your gut flora, leading to .. issues.

You’re absolutely right, or at least this is my theory as well. I think if people rubbed themselves down with some rich good smelling forest soil and stopped using soap, they would be surprised. I do cold rinses and scrape my skin to remove oils/dead skin/dirt occasionally, but sauna promotes symbiotic bacteria.

Like I said in another post - when you stop soaping, you will stink like crap for a few weeks, but saunas would definitely help and I posit (theorize) that rubbing your bits down with some nice dark forest humus that smells fresh and clean would also help change the biome of your skin to a more symbiotic situation.
I said I theorize, because I didn’t do that myself, but I also did lots of gardening and have worm bins, which have the most awesomest biome on earth.. and while I didn’t smear it all over myself, there was plenty under my fingernails I didn’t bother to remove and plenty of transfer from there

Thx, the concrete actually stays relatively cool. The shower head is like 16”x16” pic rel. I ordered the cedar wood and heater as a package deal from a Canadian company called saunafin. I had also never built a sauna before, you can do it. They have good instructions at their website too. No complaints / things I don’t like about it really

Why would a farmer want my worm poop? They should be able to make a hell of a lot more than me on their own. It’s not hard, my worms thrive in benign neglect, just dumping stuff on top and shredding up newspaper. I have bag systems that you can take the finished poop out of the bottom, and they don’t suffer from getting overly moist like other ways. I actually have to add water to one of them, the other not so much. Ones a breathable material one is like polycloth. I like both in their own way. The breathable one, I mostly just dump a 5 gallon bucket of rainwater through it, and dump it through again, then water stuffs. All my buckets of piss and worm poop is for me, farmers should make their own though it’s easy and doesn’t take hardly any of my time

What method are you using anon? Never heard of a bag system. Can't picture how you'd be able to get castings out.
I started keeping worms this year just in a tote and with the heat last month I've killed about 90% of what had built up in the last year. Also the tote has the problem that all those nice castings are at the bottom and I don't like digging through springtails and moldy coffee filters to get at it.

Sorry anon, the one out of 2 that I like the best I ordered 8 years ago from some small website, and I can’t find any info on it or track it down. The second one is the “urban worm farm”, but it’s not made of breathable fabric and I don’t like it as much, but I use both of them differently too. Pic related is the basic concept. Next post I’ll post mine. It’s made of heavy duty canvas and attached to a frame I made of pvc piping. At the bottom of the bag there’s drawstrings and it cinches shut (think of a hiking backpack)
